S44 Energy Launches TopazEV: Open-as-a-Service CSMS

MAHWAH, NJS44 Energy, an EV charging software company, today announced TopazEV. This new offering represents the industry’s first Open-as-a-Service (OaaS) charge station management software (CSMS). TopazEV aims to cut costs, speed deployment, and ultimately empower operators. It provides charge point operators (CPOs), fleets, retailers, and utility companies with the flexibility to launch, operate, and scale EV charging networks. Crucially, it does so without vendor lock-in, per-session fees, or protocol limitations.

TopazEV arrives at a critical moment for the EV charging industry. Federal subsidies are currently in flux. Additionally, mounting pressure exists to build reliable, scalable infrastructure. Despite over 250,000 public fast chargers in the U.S., EV adoption still lags behind China and Europe. A main driver for this disparity is a significant public concern: nearly half of Americans fear being stranded due to charger availability. Data validates this concern, showing that one in five charging attempts fail, often due to underlying software issues.

Open Architecture Meets Simplicity

Olga Haygood, CEO of S44 Energy, highlighted TopazEV’s versatile appeal. “Whether you’re standing up a pilot site or running a nationwide network, TopazEV delivers the control of open architecture with the simplicity of a managed platform,” she stated. “You get the flexibility to scale and the freedom to integrate at a price that grows with you, not against you.

TopazEV is a modern CSMS specifically built for today’s CPOs, fleets, and utilities. It offers operators complete control of their networks. A real-time dashboard provides immediate access to charger status, network statistics, and session tracking. TopazEV supports open protocols, including OCPP 1.6, OCPP 2.0.1, OCPI 2.2.1, and ISO 15118. This simplifies onboarding for legacy hardware. Furthermore, it provides standard features like Plug & Charge and roaming, while preparing for next-gen functionalities such as hardware monitoring and V2G integration. Operators can easily integrate TopazEV with billing systems, CRMs, and analytics tools of their choice via REST APIs, GraphQL, and Webhooks.

Key Advantages of TopazEV

Several key aspects set TopazEV apart in the market:

  • Protocol-ready for any stage: TopazEV offers full support for both legacy and modern charging standards. This ensures true network interoperability and robust future-proofing.
  • Built for operators, not just engineers: Its clean, intuitive user interface (UI) caters to daily operations. It includes live status updates, fault alerts, comprehensive charging statistics, and efficient asset provisioning.
  • API-first and integration-friendly: Integrations with third-party tools are made simple. Operators can implement these on their own or with S44 Energy’s assistance. Crucially, the intellectual property remains with the operators, allowing them to build the exact tech stack that fits their unique needs.

Flexible Deployment Models

TopazEV offers two distinct models to suit varying operational requirements:

  • Open-as-a-Service (OaaS): This is a subscription-based model. S44 Energy hosts the platform, or it can be deployed on a platform of the operator’s choice for a setup fee. This model proves ideal for fast pilots and rapidly growing networks.
  • Business Source License (BSL): This model involves a one-time license. It gives enterprises full ownership of the codebase, enabling independent implementation.

Both OaaS and BSL models promise full control, transparency, and the ability to scale without compromise, empowering a new era of EV charging network management.
