In a move that signals the accelerating decline of aftermarket telematics hardware, Motorq and Volvo Cars have announced a major strategic partnership to bring real-time embedded vehicle data to fleets and dealerships across the United States and Europe.
The integration marks a significant expansion for Motorq’s Connected Vehicle Intelligence platform, adding one of the world’s most respected premium brands to a roster that now exceeds 10 original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners. For the EV sector, the partnership is particularly noteworthy: it bypasses the traditional, “clunky” requirement of physical dongles in favor of direct, cloud-to-cloud data streams.
The Death of the Dongle
For years, fleet managers operating Volvo vehicles had to rely on third-party hardware to track vehicle health. These devices were often expensive to procure, slow to install across thousands of units, and prone to connection failures.
By leveraging Volvo’s built-in wireless connectivity, Motorq’s AI-powered models can now ingest data directly from the vehicle’s “brain.” This secure flow of information provides instant visibility into:
- Battery Health & State of Charge: Critical for planning long-haul EV routes.
- Charging Patterns: Helping fleets optimize charging schedules to avoid peak utility rates.
- Maintenance Alerts: Shifting from reactive repairs to predictive uptime management.
- Driver Behavior: Monitoring safety metrics to reduce insurance liabilities.
AI at the Core of Mobility
“The next phase of mobility runs on embedded connectivity with AI at the core,” said Arun Rajagopalan, CEO and Co-Founder of Motorq. Volvo Cars and Motorq are accelerating this shift by providing trusted data that help us predict issues and optimize EV charging in ways that simply weren’t possible in the past.“
For Volvo, the partnership aligns with their aggressive 2040 net-zero goals. By providing fleets with near real-time insights, Volvo is essentially handing its commercial customers the tools needed to maximize the efficiency and lifespan of their electric assets.
Jonas Ronnkvist, Head of Data Business & Strategy at Volvo Cars, emphasized the efficiency gains: “Our fleet and dealership customers can access insights directly from vehicles in near real-time, supporting safety and sustainability without the need for additional hardware.“
Immediate Global Availability
The integration is live as of today. Commercial fleets and dealerships in the U.S. and Europe can activate the service immediately through Motorq’s software portal or via API integrations. Because the solution is “turnkey,” fleets can scale their intelligence capabilities across an entire Volvo inventory in a fraction of the time it previously took to schedule a single hardware installation.
As the industry moves closer to a software-defined future, the Motorq-Volvo alliance stands as a blueprint for how OEMs and data platforms can collaborate to strip away the friction of EV adoption.
