BOLZANO, ITALY – As the electric vehicle (EV) market shifts from early adopters to the mass market, the industry’s focus is pivoting from raw power to user accessibility. Recognizing this trend, Alpitronic has announced the launch of the HYC400 Series 2, an evolution of its proven all-in-one fast-charging station that prioritizes intuitive operation without compromising on its industry-leading 400 kW performance.
Human-Centric Design for Public Infrastructure
While the “Hypercharger” brand has long been synonymous with technical reliability, the Series 2 introduces significant ergonomic upgrades aimed at reducing “charging anxiety” for a broader demographic of drivers.
The most notable change is the hardware layout. The Series 2 features a front-facing, lowered display designed to be accessible to all users, including those in wheelchairs. This is paired with a completely redesigned user interface that guides drivers through the charging process with a modern, step-by-step format.
Critically, Alpitronic has retained physical controls alongside the touchscreen, ensuring the station remains operable in adverse weather conditions—a common pain point for touchscreen-only infrastructure.
Technical Prowess: SiC Gen 2 and 97.5% Efficiency
Under the hood, the Series 2 leverages the latest in power electronics. The station utilizes Alpitronic’s Gen 2 Silicon Carbide (SiC) power stacks, the same technology found in their recently introduced HYC1000 megawatt charging system.
Key technical specifications include:
- Peak Output: 400 kW.
- Voltage Range: 150 V to 1,000 V, supporting both 400V and 800V vehicle architectures.
- Continuous Current: Dual parallel outputs providing up to 600 A each.
- Efficiency: Rated at over 97.5%, significantly reducing thermal waste and lowering long-term operating costs for Charge Point Operators (CPOs).
- Granularity: Power is delivered in 50 kW increments, allowing the system to dynamically allocate energy based on the specific needs of the connected vehicles.
A Strategic Choice for Operators
For CPOs and site hosts, the HYC400 Series 2 represents a “future-proof” investment. Alpitronic is offering both the original HYC400 and the Series 2 across Europe, allowing operators to choose the model that best fits their specific site requirements.
“In public charging operations, reliable and intuitive user guidance is as important as charging power in kilowatts,” says Philipp Senoner, CEO of Alpitronic. “With the HYC400 Series 2, we have placed an even greater emphasis on simple, self-explanatory operation. This improves the charging experience for all drivers while making operation more efficient.”
The Series 2 also offers visual customization, allowing CPOs to skin the user interface to match their corporate branding—a vital feature for building loyalty in an increasingly competitive public charging landscape.
