MEDFORD, Mass. — To support zero-emissions transportation goals and improve public health, the Electric Vehicle Charging Accessibility Network (EVCAN) has launched a Qualified Products List (QPL) for charge station management systems (CSMS).
The new resource is designed to help electric utilities, businesses, government agencies, and fleet owners evaluate reliable, safe, and grid-responsive EV charge management systems when administering charging infrastructure incentives and deployments across North America.
EVCAN, an initiative of Efficiency Forward, added six CSMS platforms to the list following independent evaluations confirming compliance with comprehensive technical criteria released in 2025.
Key program insights
- First qualified manufacturers: Systems from AMPECO Ltd., ChargeLab, Driivz Inc., EV Connect Inc., Swtch Energy, and Wevo by SolarEdge met the technical requirements and are now QPL listed.
- Core qualification standards: Platforms are evaluated for interoperability and cybersecurity compliance, grid flexibility through intelligent energy management, and real-time data reporting for station operators and utilities.
- Utility collaboration: The specification was developed with early input from BC Hydro, Eversource, National Grid, Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), and Con Edison.
- Stakeholder framework: The process is modeled after the stakeholder approach used by the DesignLights Consortium to create transparent, publicly accessible procurement tools.
As managed charging becomes critical to scaling EV infrastructure without overloading local distribution networks, utilities and program administrators require objective verification that software platforms can securely monitor and control charging sessions.
EVCAN’s CSMS specification establishes baseline performance for open interoperability, grid flexibility, and data integration. The resulting QPL provides a searchable tool detailing product features and standards adoption to help stakeholders filter software based on specific commercial, governmental, or fleet charging scenarios.

Early involvement from participating electric utilities helped shape the underlying technical criteria, ensuring the list addresses practical requirements for grid integration, load management, and utility rebate administration.
EVCAN said the QPL will continue to expand as technical teams evaluate and qualify additional applications from smart charge management software developers.

EVCAN is an initiative of Efficiency Forward and uses technical specification and QPL frameworks similar to those established by the DesignLights Consortium. Participating utilities include BC Hydro, Eversource, National Grid, Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), and Con Edison, which contribute to ongoing discussions on technology standardization and utility EV programs.
