New EU Rules: A Deadline for EV Charging in Car Parks

As of January 1, 2025, commercial car park owners in the EU will face new regulations regarding electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

Under the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), car parks with a certain number of spaces will be required to have a minimum number of EV charging points installed. This is part of a broader effort to promote sustainable mobility and reduce carbon emissions.

Key Requirements for Car Park Owners:

  • Car parks with over 20 spaces: Must have at least one charging point installed by January 1, 2025.
  • Infrastructure for expansion: Must have the necessary infrastructure in place to support charging points for one in five spaces.
  • Future requirements: By January 1, 2027, car parks must have charging points for one in ten spaces and infrastructure for 50% of all spaces.

Planning Ahead for Future Growth

CTEK advises car park owners to take a long-term perspective when planning and installing EV charging infrastructure. Investing in future-proof solutions now can ensure that their infrastructure can easily accommodate future expansions as EV adoption grows.

The Benefits of Investing in EV Charging Infrastructure

  • Increased EV Adoption: By making charging infrastructure more accessible, car park owners can encourage more people to switch to electric vehicles.
  • Enhanced Sustainability: Promoting EV charging contributes to a cleaner and more environmentally friendly transportation sector.
  • Revenue Opportunities: EV charging can generate additional revenue for car park operators.

CTEK’s Role in Supporting EV Charging Infrastructure

CTEK, a leading provider of EV charging solutions, offers a range of products and services to help car park owners meet the new EU requirements. Their future-proof charge points, such as the CC3, are designed to support the latest charging technologies and ensure compatibility with future advancements.

As the demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, investing in EV charging infrastructure is becoming increasingly important for businesses and organizations. By proactively implementing these new regulations, car park owners can position themselves as leaders in sustainable mobility and capitalize on the growing market for EV charging services.
