Windsor-Essex Launches EV Battery Workforce Training

Invest WindsorEssex has launched a groundbreaking program to equip local workers with the skills needed to thrive in the rapidly expanding electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing sector. The “Battery Boost: Technical Training for Battery Manufacturing Careers” program will provide over 400 participants with the necessary skills to succeed in this high-growth industry. This program is funded by Upskill Canada, powered by Palette Skills, with support from the Government of Canada.

Addressing the Skills Gap in the EV Battery Sector

The EV battery manufacturing sector is experiencing rapid growth. This creates a high demand for skilled workers. Recognizing this critical need, the Battery Boost program aims to bridge the skills gap. It provides training opportunities for individuals seeking new career paths, including those who have been laid off from other industries. This program will equip them with the in-demand skills necessary to succeed in this dynamic and evolving sector.

VR Training: A Cutting-Edge Approach to Skill Development

A key feature of the Battery Boost program is its innovative use of Virtual Reality (VR) training. Participants will gain hands-on experience through immersive VR simulations. These simulations are developed and delivered by Virtualware, a leading provider of VR training solutions. Using their award-winning VIROO platform, Virtualware creates realistic virtual environments. This allows trainees to practice essential skills in a safe and controlled setting. This prepares them for the complexities of real-world battery manufacturing.

Collaboration is Key

The success of the Battery Boost program hinges on strong collaboration among key partners.

  • Invest WindsorEssex leads the program and fosters regional partnerships.
  • Upskill Canada (powered by Palette Skills) provides funding and program management expertise.
  • NextStar Energy contributes valuable industry insights and collaborates on curriculum development.
  • Virtualware develops and delivers the immersive VR training experiences.

This collaborative approach ensures the training program aligns with the evolving needs of the EV battery manufacturing industry. It also provides participants with the most relevant and up-to-date skills.
