Wellingborough, Northampton, UK – RML Group Ltd, a prominent UK-based high-performance automotive engineering specialist, has secured Conformity of Production (CoP) certification for its advanced battery systems. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the company and represents a major step towards readiness for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) supply.
Solidifying Quality and Safety Standards
The CoP certification follows a rigorous audit conducted by UCA, an independent body appointed by certifying authorities. This audit confirmed that RML’s quality management systems consistently produce products in full compliance with UN ECE Regulation 100. This regulation is a key safety standard for electrified powertrain components, underscoring RML’s commitment to safety and quality. James Arkell, Head of Powertrain at RML Group, commented: “This is an important step forward for RML. It really highlights the in-depth technical capability and quality standards RML adhere to“. He added that the certification solidifies the message to the industry that RML delivers performance safely, reliably, and repeatably.
CoP certification is widely recognized as a minimum requirement for suppliers collaborating with major automotive manufacturers. It signifies a company’s ability not only to design to strict safety standards but also to build to them consistently and at scale. With this approval, RML firmly enters the realm of Tier 1-capable suppliers.
Strategic Positioning and Market Advantage
This certification forms a crucial part of RML’s broader initiative to homologate its VarEVolt battery platform. It strategically positions the company to bid on larger-scale contracts, extending well beyond prototyping or ultra-low volume production. Arkell further elaborated: “This certification puts clear water between us and a number of smaller start-ups in the EV space“. He emphasized that it underscores RML’s readiness to transition from niche volumes and prototyping to supporting larger production contracts.
