SOMERVILLE, MA – SparkCharge, known as the world’s largest off-grid electric vehicle fleet charging network, has successfully closed a $30.5 million capital raise. This significant funding will rapidly accelerate the expansion of its mobile, off-grid, and scalable EV charging services across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The capital infusion comprises a $15.5 million Series A-1 funding round led by Monte’s Fam, alongside a $15 million venture loan facility from Horizon Technology Finance Corporation. Strategic investors like Collab Capital, Cleveland Avenue, Non-sibi Ventures, Elemental Impact, and MarcyPen participated in the Series A-1. Additionally, SparkCharge secured non-dilutive financing with CSC Leasing to support equipment needs for its continued growth.
Launched in 2017 as the creator of the first mobile, off-grid EV charger, SparkCharge aims to further facilitate EV adoption. The company will focus on enhancing fleet services and developing strategic partnerships across various mobility industries
Addressing Critical Fleet Charging Challenges
SparkCharge provides Charging-as-a-Service (CaaS) programs. These offer effortless, instant, and flexible off-grid EV fleet charging. Their solutions eliminate the months-long waits and steep upfront investments typically associated with traditional infrastructure. SparkCharge’s mobile DC fast charging capabilities allow EVs to be powered anywhere, even without existing grid infrastructure. This directly addresses a major concern for fleet operators: surveys indicate that while 87% plan to add EVs in the next five years, charging station availability and lack of infrastructure remain top worries.
SparkCharge’s CaaS model offers flexible and scalable solutions. Customers can begin with one of the following formats and easily upgrade as their fleet expands:
- Mobile Battery Charging: A flexible 80-300 kW battery-powered DC fast charging (DCFC) solution that can be instantly deployed to a fleet. This offers white-glove, self-managed, or hybrid service options.
- Off-Grid Power Hub: A 180 kW – 500 kW grid-independent DCFC solution. It’s built for large-scale EV charging and all-in-one energy management, utilizing a clean energy-powered microgrid for simultaneous charging of multiple EVs.
- Permanent EV Infrastructure: A comprehensive, turnkey solution that starts with mobile and off-grid services. It can seamlessly transition into permanent grid-connected infrastructure, covering everything from planning and permits to construction and commissioning.
This revolutionary approach enables fleets to go live in days, not months, bypassing construction delays and hefty infrastructure expenses. SparkCharge provides flexible service levels, integrates with any existing chargers or software, and guarantees 24/7 reliability. It stands as a one-stop shop for future-proof fleet electrification without the usual wait, risk, or hassle.
Leadership Perspectives on Market Opportunity
Josh Aviv, Founder and CEO of SparkCharge, commented on the significant capital raise: “This raise reflects both the strength of the SparkCharge growth story as well as the market opportunity ahead as electric fleets become the standard for so many prominent brands. We’re uniquely focused on taking the anxiety, guesswork, and delays – all still barriers for adoption – out of the commercial EV charging experience.” He added that the funding will enable the company to grow its team, expand market reach, and deepen its portfolio of strategic partnerships and customer installations, thereby accelerating EV adoption.
David Piperno, CFO of SparkCharge, expressed excitement about being first to market with their off-grid EV Charging Network.
Gerald A. Michaud, President of Horizon Technology Finance Corporation, lauded SparkCharge’s breakthrough technology. He noted that its portable solution contrasts sharply with slower and costlier fixed infrastructure approaches.
Ed Jean-Louis, Founder, CEO & CIO of Monte’s Fam, emphasized the effectiveness of SparkCharge’s mobile and off-grid solutions. He stated they “effectively solve the critical bottleneck of charging infrastructure by bringing power directly to vehicles when and where it’s needed,” creating a flexible foundation for the next generation of electric mobility.
Proven Impact and Future Growth
To date, SparkCharge has delivered over 4,000,000 kWh to customers. This remarkable output has directly led to the elimination of approximately 500,000+ gallons of gasoline.
In the past year alone, SparkCharge has achieved significant milestones. The company was selected as the EV Charging Partner for the 2025 Masters Tournament. Furthermore, SparkCharge has expanded its fleet charging coverage across all 50 U.S. states.
The company also recently announced a strategic partnership with Pioneer Power, further solidifying its market position and potential for future growth.
