Sweden’s PreZero Orders 35 Electric Volvo Trucks

SWEDEN – International waste management company PreZero has placed a significant order for 35 battery-electric trucks from Volvo. This major investment includes a majority of Volvo FM Low Entry models, Volvo’s first truck developed exclusively for electric drive. The move marks a crucial step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions in waste management and energy recovery, and it builds on PreZero’s existing relationship with Volvo Trucks, having integrated its first electric Volvo truck into service in 2022. The order is also complemented by strategic investments in charging infrastructure at PreZero’s depots within the Stockholm area.

We are very happy and proud of the trust that PreZero puts in Volvo Trucks with this order for more battery-electric trucks from us,” said Stefan Strand, Managing Director of Volvo Trucks Sweden. “The order for 35 electric trucks is the largest to date in the recycling industry in Sweden. PreZero is truly leading the way by converting its transport to zero exhaust emissions.

Optimized for City Operations and Driver Comfort

The order includes 24 Volvo FM Low Entry trucks, specifically designed for electric operation. These vehicles are optimized for safe and efficient driving in urban environments, offering capacity for heavy loads and excellent driver visibility. The Volvo FM Low Entry is versatile, adaptable for various transportation tasks such as waste management, distribution, and construction. Additionally, PreZero is acquiring ten Volvo FM Electric models and one Volvo FL Electric. The Volvo FM recently earned a full five-star rating in Euro NCAP’s first truck safety assessment and the City Safe award, underscoring its safety credentials.

Battery-electric trucks offer significant environmental and community benefits, particularly lower noise levels in densely populated areas. Residents can expect reduced exhaust gases and quieter operation compared to conventional trucks, enhancing the living environment. Mårten Widlund, CEO of PreZero, commented, “We feel that Volvo Trucks is at the forefront when it comes to innovative development in safety and the environment. Volvo’s high quality and extensive service network also give us security in our production, which is extremely important to us. We have a good collaboration that we intend to continue to develop together.”

All 35 trucks will feature Volvo’s unique steering system, Volvo Dynamic Steering (VDS). This system allows for minimal effort steering with full control, reducing strain on drivers’ arms and shoulders, thereby improving safety and minimizing wear and tear. Nearly all trucks will also be equipped with Volvo’s new camera-equipped side mirrors, enhancing direct visibility and night vision while limiting blind spots close to the truck.

Volvo Trucks: A Global Leader in Electric Mobility

Volvo Trucks stands as a global leader in medium- and heavy-duty electric trucks, boasting a portfolio of eight battery-electric models. Their extensive product range enables the electrification of various segments, including city and regional distribution, construction, waste management, and now long-distance transport. Volvo began serial production of electric trucks in 2019 and has since delivered over 4,900 electric trucks to customers across 49 countries worldwide.

Volvo Trucks employs a three-path technology strategy to achieve its net-zero emissions target by 2040 and drive the transition towards fossil-free transport. This approach encompasses battery-electric vehicles, fuel cell-electric vehicles, and combustion engines powered by renewable fuels such as green hydrogen, biogas, biodiesel, or HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil).
