Stellantis Unveils STLA Large: The Future of Flexible BEV Platforms

Stellantis has revealed STLA Large, the latest addition to its innovative range of BEV-native platforms, setting a new benchmark in the electric vehicle (EV) industry for the D and E segments.

A New Era of BEV Platforms

STLA Large joins Stellantis’ lineup of global BEV platforms – Small, Medium, Large, and Frame – demonstrating unparalleled flexibility in battery technology, electric drive modules (EDMs), power inverters, and software control. This platform follows the STLA Medium, introduced last July, marking another step in Stellantis’ ambitious electrification strategy.

Designed for Diversity and Performance

This platform, described as “BEV-native,” is also adaptable to hybrid and internal combustion propulsion systems, ensuring versatility across various markets. STLA Large is set to debut in North America with brands like Dodge and Jeep, followed by Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, and Maserati. Stellantis plans to launch eight vehicles on this platform from 2024 to 2026, with brand-specific announcements starting this year.

Engineering Flexibility and Efficiency

STLA Large offers remarkable technological flexibility, ensuring a wide range of vehicle diversity with robust and efficient manufacturing processes. Its inherent flexibility allows for adjustments in wheelbase, dimensions, and ground clearance, tailored to meet specific vehicle performance objectives.

Advanced Power and Charging Capabilities

Engineered as a native BEV platform, STLA Large offers options for 400-volt and 800-volt electric architectures. Its initial battery pack options range from 85 to 118 kWh, targeting up to 800 km/500 miles range for sedans. The platform’s fast charging can add up to 4.5 kWh per minute, promising exceptional performance upgrades over the vehicle’s lifespan through OTA software updates.

Hybrid and Combustion System Support

In addition to pure electric propulsion, STLA Large supports hybrid and internal combustion systems, providing a transitional solution during the global shift to electric propulsion and the development of comprehensive charging infrastructures. This flexibility includes various engine mounting configurations to support FWD/RWD/AWD drivetrains.

A Commitment to Electrification and Sustainability

Stellantis’ investment in electrification, including the STLA Large platform, is a key part of its ‘Dare Forward 2030′ strategic plan. The company is investing heavily in electrification, aiming for a 100% passenger car BEV sales mix in Europe and 50% in the United States by 2030. This commitment is integral to Stellantis’ goal of becoming a carbon net zero corporation by 2038.

The unveiling of STLA Large by Stellantis is a significant milestone in the evolution of electric vehicles. It represents a fusion of cutting-edge technology, flexibility, and a forward-thinking approach to vehicle manufacturing. As Stellantis gears up to launch a diverse range of vehicles on this platform, STLA Large is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of sustainable and efficient mobility.
