The clock is ticking for those in the UK looking to install EV chargepoints with government support. As of Saturday, December 21st, there are only 100 days left to apply for grants from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV). This means businesses, landlords, flat owners, renters, and even households who park on the street have less than four months to secure hundreds of pounds per chargepoint installed. Most of the available incentives have a deadline of March 31, 2025.
These schemes aim to boost EV adoption now that purchase grants for electric cars are no longer available (though the Plug-in Van and Truck Grant continues). Several key grant programs are available:
- Workplace Charging Scheme: This scheme offers businesses, charities, and public sector employers up to £350 per charging socket, for a maximum of 40 sockets across all sites.
- State-funded Education Institutions: These institutions can receive 75% off the cost of buying and installing chargepoints, up to £2,500 per socket and a maximum of 40 sockets across all sites.
- Infrastructure Grant for Staff and Fleets: This grant supports broader building work required to install multiple chargepoint sockets, both for current and future needs. It offers up to £350 per chargepoint socket installed and up to £500 per parking space enabled, with a maximum grant of £15,000.
- Chargepoint and Infrastructure Grants for Landlords: Landlords can receive up to £350 per socket for up to 200 residential properties and 100 commercial properties each year. Infrastructure grants of £500 per parking space are also available for current and future chargepoint installations.
- For Renters or Flat Owners: Renters and flat owners can receive up to £350 to install a chargepoint at a dedicated off-street parking space.
- Households with On-Street Parking: EV drivers who need a cross-pavement solution to connect a home chargepoint to a street-parked EV can receive up to £350.
Investing in Future-Proof Charging Solutions:
Daniel Forsberg, Marketing Manager EVSE at CTEK, a chargepoint manufacturer, urges people to act now. “With no extension or replacement for the grants announced to date, the countdown clock is ticking on applying for these valuable incentives,” he says. Moreover, he highlights the importance of future-proofing: “Installers and their customers should be looking to install futureproofed hardware, such as CTEK’s CC3 chargepoint, which has the latest communication and security standards which is primed for the next innovations in EV charging such as Autocharge and Plug & Charge.”
This ensures a lasting investment. As Forsberg explains, “That way employers, renters, flat owners and landlords can confidently invest in EV charging that can be easily installed and will be reliable and current for many years to come.” CTEK also offers support. “Our UK team of experts are on hand to help installers and their customers with technical and operational advice and information,” says Forsberg. “Together the OZEV grants and CTEK’s technology and support bring reliable, futureproofed EV charging within reach.”
A Crucial Opportunity for EV Charging Infrastructure:
These grants provide a significant boost to the UK’s EV charging infrastructure. They lower the financial barriers to entry for individuals and businesses. This, in turn, supports the wider adoption of electric vehicles. For readers of EV Charging Magazine, this represents a valuable opportunity to contribute to the growth of the EV ecosystem and access crucial funding.
