UK Businesses Urged to Claim EV Charging Grants Before March 2026 Deadline

UK businesses, landlords, and flat owners have been issued a strong reminder that the clock is ticking on a range of government grants for installing Electric Vehicle (EV) charge points. With the funding programs set to close on March 31, 2026, time is running short to secure essential financial support for EV infrastructure.

The looming deadline covers several key schemes administered by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), designed to support the shift towards electric mobility.

Viktors Nikolajevs from EV chargepoint manufacturer CTEK warned: “The UK Government has extended chargepoint installation grants before, but there is no guarantee it will do so again. Those who have not yet taken advantage should seriously consider doing so now, to futureproof their car parks as the UK’s drivers switch to electric in ever-growing numbers.

The urgency to apply is also fueled by the government’s newly reinstated purchase grants for qualifying new EVs, worth up to £3,750 for a car or £500 for a motorcycle, further accelerating the need for charging infrastructure.

Key Grants Approaching the Deadline

Businesses and property owners across the UK can access several grants that dramatically reduce the cost of installing charging points:

  • Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS): This voucher-based scheme offers businesses, charities, and public sector organisations up to £350 per socket, covering up to 75% of purchase and installation costs. An applicant can claim for a maximum of 40 sockets across all their sites, amounting to a potential £14,000 in savings.
  • EV Infrastructure Grant for Staff and Fleets: This grant supports the wider building and civil work needed for multiple chargepoints (including cabling and other passive infrastructure). Businesses can receive up to £15,000 per property and up to five grants across five different sites, covering up to 75% of the cost.
  • EV Chargepoint and Infrastructure Grants for Landlords: Landlords can claim grants for up to 200 residential properties and 100 commercial properties each financial year, helping to install both charge points and supporting infrastructure.
  • EV Chargepoint Grant for Renters and Flat Owners: Individuals renting a property or owning a flat can claim up to £350 off the cost of purchasing and installing a home charge point, provided they have dedicated off-street parking.

The Scale of the Opportunity: OZEV Grant Uptake

The latest data from OZEV highlights just how many organisations have already taken advantage of the funding. In the 12 months to 1 July 2025 alone, OZEV grants funded:

  • 10,647 socket installations under the Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant (EVCG).
  • 7,924 sockets in workplace car parks under the WCS.
  • 2,402 sockets at schools, also under the WCS.
  • 3,353 new on-street charging devices through the On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS).

CTEK’s Solution for Future-Ready Charging

CTEK is actively supporting the grant process with OZEV-compliant hardware.

Viktors Nikolajevs highlighted the company’s offering: “CTEK’s robust CC3 chargepoint is futureproofed with the latest communication and security standards and makes the most of OZEV’s grants by providing easily installed, reliable and efficient charging.

For businesses, this means choosing a solution that is not only eligible for the grant money but is also future-proof, allowing for features like load balancing and integration with smart management software for billing and reporting.

Advice to Beat the Rush

The message for UK employers is clear: with only six months left until the grants close, the time for planning is now.

  • Start the Process Immediately: Applications involve multiple steps, including site surveys, obtaining quotes from OZEV-approved installers, and coordinating the installation.
  • Engage an Installer: “Employers with staff car parks who have yet to introduce EV charging should talk to EV charging installers now to assess the potential, explore the grants available and install affordable and future-ready EV charging,” added Nikolajevs.
  • Check Eligibility: Ensure your property and chosen equipment are compliant to avoid delays.

The opportunity for government funding is finite. Companies and property owners who move swiftly can ensure they are well-prepared for the continued shift to electric vehicles and benefit from the current financial support available.
