Applus+ IDIADA Confirms 2026 Participation to Strengthen Europe’s Independent Battery Supply Chain

Applus+ IDIADA, recognized as one of Europe’s most comprehensive centers for integrated battery solutions and testing, has officially confirmed its role as an exhibitor at the Battery & Energy Storage Tech Europe conference, set to take place on September 8-9, 2026, at Fira de Barcelona.

The announcement positions the company at the forefront of the continent’s burgeoning energy storage ecosystem, highlighting its capacity to support manufacturers with advanced testing capabilities crucial for next-generation electric vehicles (EVs) and broader applications.

Underscoring a Robust Continental Supply Chain

The confirmation of IDIADA’s presence is viewed by industry leaders as a significant move for securing European independence in energy technology development.

Ken Davies, Conference Program Director for Battery & Energy Storage Tech Europe, emphasized the strategic importance of IDIADA’s participation. “Comprehensive battery testing is a crucial element for building a robust and resilient energy storage ecosystem in Europe,” Davies stated. He added that IDIADA’s commitment “underscores the importance of building a robust continental supply chain for battery energy storage, independent of far eastern suppliers.

Applus+ IDIADA has recently completed a massive 2,000 square meter expansion of its Battery Safety Laboratory, cementing its facility as one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive battery abuse testing sites. This scale establishes the company as a reference partner for global automotive manufacturers and battery developers accelerating the transition to electrification.

Revolutionizing Testing Protocols

The new facility and its advanced capabilities will be central to the company’s discussions at the conference.

Battery & Energy Storage Tech Europe represents an ideal platform for us to connect with the energy storage and battery innovation community,” said Natalia Artal, Senior Manager, e-Powertrain, Battery Systems at Applus+ IDIADA.

Artal further highlighted the transformative impact of the new lab: “Our new Battery Safety laboratory revolutionizes battery testing by combining cutting-edge research with disruptive technologies to create the testing protocols of tomorrow.

The facility provides comprehensive safety and durability testing, including sophisticated scenarios such as thermal propagation, fire resistance, drop tests, crush tests, and water immersion. Furthermore, the laboratory operates with advanced environmental protection systems, including state-of-the-art gas scrubbing and water treatment, ensuring that rigorous testing processes are aligned with stringent environmental strategies.

Bridging EV Innovation to New Applications

Battery & Energy Storage Tech Europe 2026 is pioneering a new focus on next-generation emerging battery applications, forming a crucial bridge from European innovation in EVs to sectors beyond the automotive industry. This includes grid-scale storage, aerospace, and maritime electrification.

The event, expected to bring together thousands of energy professionals, engineers, entrepreneurs, and investors, offers visitors to the Applus+ IDIADA booth an opportunity to learn about the company’s extensive validation programs, discuss specific project requirements, and explore key partnership opportunities for advanced battery development.
