Ten-Nine Partners With Jiaohang to Expand TENIX in China

Ten-Nine Technologies has appointed Shanghai Jiaohang Trading Co., Ltd. as the Chinese distributor for its TENIX cathode additive, expanding the company’s commercial and technical presence in the world’s largest lithium-ion battery manufacturing market.

Jiaohang will support battery manufacturers, cathode active-material producers and automotive OEMs with product evaluations, pilot programs, qualification activities and potential commercial deployment. Ten-Nine will provide product expertise, application guidance and technical support.

The agreement does not identify any confirmed Chinese customer adoption, sales targets or financial terms. It establishes a local route to market for Ten-Nine while giving prospective customers in China access to commercial and technical support during material evaluation.

Jiaohang Will Distribute TENIX

Jiaohang will lead customer engagement and market development for TENIX across China. Its role includes introducing the additive to potential users, supporting evaluations and helping customers progress through technical qualification.

Ten-Nine will provide product knowledge, technical assistance and application guidance. The companies said the arrangement is intended to make it easier for Chinese battery manufacturers to assess TENIX while receiving local support through the evaluation and commercialization process.

“TENIX was developed with one simple goal: helping batteries age better without requiring manufacturers to reinvent how they build batteries,” said Guillaume de Forton, Director of International Business Development at Ten-Nine Technologies.

“Through our partnership with Jiaohang, we’re making it easier for battery manufacturers to evaluate and adopt TENIX while providing the local technical and commercial support needed to accelerate commercialization.”

The partnership does not automatically mean TENIX has been qualified or adopted by a particular Chinese battery manufacturer. Battery-material adoption typically requires product testing, cell-level validation, manufacturing trials, safety review and commercial qualification before volume deployment.

TENIX Integrates Into Cathodes

TENIX is a sustainably produced powder additive designed to blend directly into cathode active material used in lithium-ion battery production. Ten-Nine describes it as an “anti-aging” additive because it is intended to limit chemical degradation that gradually reduces battery capacity and performance during repeated charging and discharging.

The company says the material improves cathode stability without requiring battery manufacturers to buy new production equipment or redesign existing battery cells. Depending on the application and cell configuration, TENIX represents between 0.5% and 2% of cathode weight.

Ten-Nine positions its proprietary nano-scale additive for established lithium-ion chemistries and emerging manganese-rich battery platforms. The goal is to target degradation pathways in the cathode while fitting within existing cathode-manufacturing processes.

Reported Battery Performance

Ten-Nine reports that third-party testing found batteries containing TENIX completed more than 75% additional charge-discharge cycles than untreated cells. The company estimates that this could extend the useful life of a typical EV battery from about 150,000 miles to more than 265,000 miles.

Ten-Nine-reported resultReported implication
More than 75% additional charge-discharge cyclesLonger usable battery life
Approximately 10% lower internal resistancePotentially lower energy losses and improved charging behavior
Around 40% lower heat output over battery lifePotential thermal-management and durability benefits
Approximately 40% lower lifetime cost per kWh deliveredLower lifetime energy-storage cost, subject to application assumptions

The announcement does not identify the third-party testing organization or publish the complete test protocol. These figures should therefore be understood as Ten-Nine-reported results, not independently verified outcomes applicable to every chemistry, cell format or operating environment.

In an earlier TENIX production-scale announcement, the company said its cycle-life results were obtained from testing involving 21700-format NMC811 cells. Commercial results can vary based on cathode chemistry, cell design, additive concentration, temperature, charging rate and operating profile.

Potential Charging Benefits

Internal resistance affects how efficiently electrical energy moves through a battery during charging and discharging. As resistance rises, more energy can be converted into heat rather than stored or delivered as useful electrical power.

Ten-Nine says the 10% lower resistance recorded in testing could support faster charging behavior and reduce energy lost as heat. In EV applications, lower resistance could help batteries retain charging performance for longer as they age.

However, TENIX alone would not determine the maximum charging speed of an EV. Charging performance also depends on the battery-management system, battery temperature, state of charge, cell and pack design, charging curve, vehicle architecture and charger output.

Jiaohang’s Industry Network

Shanghai Jiaohang Trading was established in 2015 and specializes in advanced battery materials and specialty chemicals. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Changshu Wealthy Science and Technology Co., Ltd., a supplier of lithium-ion battery anode binders.

Wealthy was founded in 1996, and its products are used in LFP and NMC battery anodes, battery separators and carbon-nanotube manufacturing. According to the partnership announcement, Wealthy holds more than 40% of the global market for lithium battery anode binders and more than 70% of the Chinese domestic market.

Those market-share figures are company-supplied claims; the announcement does not provide an independent source or methodology. Jiaohang plans to use Wealthy’s customer network and industry relationships to introduce TENIX to battery manufacturers and other potential users across China.

“We are pleased to partner with Ten-Nine to introduce TENIX to customers across China,” said Wang Shen, General Manager of Jiaohang.

“Leveraging Wealthy’s deep relationships across the battery industry together with Jiaohang’s commercial and technical expertise, we look forward to helping manufacturers evaluate and adopt innovative materials that improve battery performance while integrating seamlessly into existing production processes.”

Next Steps in China

Ten-Nine and Jiaohang will initially focus on evaluations, pilot programs and technical qualification. These steps are required before a new battery material can enter volume manufacturing.

Battery and cathode producers typically need to verify how an additive interacts with a particular cathode chemistry, whether manufacturing quality remains consistent, and whether treated cells meet performance, durability, safety and cost requirements. The partnership will target the following sectors:

  • Electric vehicles
  • Battery energy storage systems
  • Consumer electronics
  • Defense equipment
  • Industrial battery systems
  • Other high-growth battery markets

For Ten-Nine, the next commercial milestone will be converting customer evaluations and qualification programs into confirmed production orders with Chinese battery and cathode manufacturers. More information is available through Ten-Nine Technologies and the company’s press page.

FAQ: Ten-Nine and Jiaohang

What is the Ten-Nine and Jiaohang partnership?
Ten-Nine Technologies has appointed Shanghai Jiaohang Trading to distribute TENIX throughout China. Jiaohang will manage customer engagement, market development and local support, while Ten-Nine will provide product expertise and application guidance.

What is TENIX?
TENIX is a powder additive that blends into lithium-ion battery cathode active material. Ten-Nine says it improves cathode stability, reduces degradation and extends battery cycle life without requiring new production equipment or a battery redesign.

How much TENIX is added to a battery cathode?
According to Ten-Nine, TENIX typically represents between 0.5% and 2% of the cathode’s weight.

What performance improvements does Ten-Nine claim?
Ten-Nine reports more than 75% additional charge-discharge cycles, 10% lower internal resistance, around 40% lower heat output over battery life and an estimated 40% lower lifetime cost per kilowatt-hour delivered. Results may vary by cell chemistry, design and operating conditions.

Is TENIX already commercially deployed in China?
The announcement describes planned evaluations, pilot programs, qualification work and commercial deployment support. It does not name a Chinese customer that has completed qualification or adopted TENIX in volume production.

Why is this relevant to EV charging?
Ten-Nine says lower internal battery resistance may support improved charging behavior and reduce energy lost as heat. Actual EV charging performance also depends on the cell chemistry, battery pack, battery-management system, temperature and charger output.
