Engineering Tomorrow is hosting a special lab day event focused on electric vehicles (EVs), offering students across the United States an exciting opportunity to build and race their own EVs. On April 23, 2025, from 10 am to 1 pm EST, students will delve into the history, development, and design features of electric vehicles. The immersive lab experience, typically lasting 110-130 minutes (including a 30-minute introductory video), culminates in a special live Q&A session and wrap-up featuring college students, professional engineers, and a keynote address by a prominent figure in the automotive industry: Telva McGruder.

This year’s special lab event is honored to feature Telva McGruder, Executive Director, Global Body Manufacturing Engineering at General Motors. In her current role, Telva spearheads the transformation towards advanced automated and digital manufacturing for body and paint systems. Her focus on predictive analytics ensures safe, sustainable, and efficient operations while maintaining launch quality for GM’s global portfolio.

Prior to this, Telva served as Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at General Motors, championing an inclusive culture and driving global impact in diversity. Her impressive background, including BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, makes her an inspiring role model for students interested in STEM fields.
