Australia’s electric vehicle adoption is accelerating, and the government’s DRIVEN program is a key driver. This initiative offers substantial financial support to automotive dealerships and EV repair businesses for installing essential charging infrastructure, thus creating a more convenient and accessible charging network nationwide.
DRIVEN’s Charger Rebate Stream: A $40 Million Investment
The DRIVEN program features a dedicated Charger Rebate Stream, committing $40 million to boost charger installations at dealerships and repair facilities. Applications are expected to open in early 2025.
Here’s what businesses can anticipate:
- Up to $2,500 per Charger: Businesses can receive a rebate of up to $2,500 for each eligible smart EV charger they install.
- $20,000 Maximum per Site: The maximum rebate per site is capped at $20,000.
- $40,000 for Combined Sales and Service: Dealerships with both sales and service operations at a single location can claim up to $40,000.
- Open to All Licensed Dealers: All licensed motor vehicle dealers and traders across Australia are eligible to apply. Moreover, those with multiple eligible sites can submit separate applications for each.
- Support for EV Repair Specialists: Similarly, businesses specializing in EV repair can also claim up to $20,000 per site.
DRIVEN’s Mission: A Multi-Pronged Approach
Funded by the Australian Government’s Driving the Nation Fund, DRIVEN pursues several key objectives:
- Supporting the Automotive Industry’s EV Transition: The program assists businesses in adapting to the rising demand for EV sales and service. This aligns with the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard Act 2024.
- Raising EV Awareness: Furthermore, DRIVEN educates both industry professionals and the public about EVs and charging technology.
- Building a Nationwide Charging Network: Consequently, by incentivizing charger installations, DRIVEN aims to create a more accessible and reliable charging infrastructure, particularly in regional and remote areas. This addresses a key barrier to EV adoption.
- Driving EV Adoption and Reducing Emissions: Ultimately, DRIVEN encourages wider EV adoption and contributes to Australia’s 2050 net-zero emissions target.
Who Qualifies? Eligibility Explained
