Essendi & PowerGo Bring EV Charging to Netherlands Hotels

Charge Point Operator (CPO) PowerGo and Essendi (formerly AccorInvest), Europe’s leading hotel owner and operator, have formed a new partnership. Together, they will install electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions at multiple hotels throughout the Netherlands. This initiative aims to provide guests and visitors with quick and convenient EV charging options during their stays. The first locations are already operational, marking a significant step in enhancing sustainable mobility within the hospitality sector.

Each participating hotel will receive at least one 150 kW ultra-fast charger. These powerful units will be complemented by several 22 kW chargers. This strategic combination ensures every guest and visitor can leave with a fully charged battery, regardless of their vehicle’s charging capacity or the length of their stay.

Initial Locations and Network Expansion

Various Essendi hotels across North Holland and South Holland provinces will receive chargers. Notable locations include Mercure Amsterdam City, Ibis and Ibis Budget Amsterdam Airport at Schiphol, and Novotel hotels in Amsterdam City and Rotterdam Brainpark.

Mercure Amsterdam City was the first site to go live. Since May, guests and visitors have charged their EVs at six 22 kW charging points. Two 150 kW charging points will soon follow upon completion of an upgraded grid connection. Furthermore, since June, Novotel Amsterdam City has offered two 150 kW charging points and six 22 kW charging points for guest use. The installation of chargers at other hotels will follow swiftly. PowerGo and Essendi are actively exploring additional locations for potential network expansion, aiming to broaden convenient charging access across the region.

Greener Charging with Dynamic Pricing

This partnership emphasizes sustainable and user-friendly charging. EV drivers will benefit from fair, transparent charging prices through dynamic pricing. This system adjusts prices based on real-time electricity costs, encouraging charging during periods when more renewable energy is available. This not only makes charging more affordable but also helps ease pressure on the electricity grid.

Consistent with PowerGo’s operations across its network, hotels’ guests and visitors can charge their vehicles with certified green energy. PowerGo exclusively utilizes solar energy, which is generated from solar parks operated by its parent company, PowerField.

A Partnership Reflecting Environmental Commitment

Since summer 2024, Essendi has observed a steady increase in EV charging across its hotel network. This confirms both high user engagement and the success of the initiative. This collaboration with PowerGo forms a key part of Essendi’s broader ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategy. The Group aims to position its hotels as drivers of environmental transition and territorial development. By strengthening ties with local economic players and offering services that benefit surrounding communities, Essendi is redefining the social role of its hotels.

Martijn van der Graaf, Chief Operating Officer Western Europe at Essendi, stated: “This partnership fits perfectly within our ESG strategy, which aims to promote positive hospitality. By working with PowerGo, we’re providing our customers with concrete solutions for more environmentally friendly mobility—solutions that are easy to access and make a real difference. This collaboration reflects our ambition to make the hotel a key player in the ecological transition, creating value that goes beyond our walls and strengthens our role within the local ecosystem.

Paul Sieljes, Head of Operations at PowerGo, added: “Essendi’s deep knowledge of the hospitality sector, combined with PowerGo’s expertise in charging infrastructure, results in a strong partnership. By offering guests and visitors a user-friendly and sustainable charging experience, we help hotels strengthen their commitment to sustainability while enhancing the overall guest experience. We look forward to expanding this charging network in collaboration with Essendi, with a continued focus on the needs of the EV drivers.
