FPT Enters Top Three European Certified High-Voltage Battery Producers

TURIN, ITALY — Powertrain manufacturer FPT, an Iveco Group brand specializing in low-environmental-impact propulsion systems, has officially achieved manufacturing certification under the rigorous European Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 (the EU Batteries Regulation). The landmark validation positions FPT as one of only three high-voltage (HV) battery producers in Europe to currently secure this compliance milestone.

The successful conformity assessment was completed during a comprehensive technical audit at FPT’s carbon-neutral ePowertrain manufacturing facility located in Turin, Italy. The evaluation scrutinized the entire industrial life cycle—including design, development, and manufacturing workflows—of the brand’s proprietary eBS 37 EVO high-voltage battery system, engineered for light commercial vehicles, minibuses, and electric marine propulsion.

Rigorous Multinational Validation Process

The compliance audit was conducted by a multi-agency international delegation composed of technical specialists from TÜV SÜD Denmark ApS, alongside oversight observers from DANAK (the National Accreditation Fund of Denmark) and Accredia (the National Accreditation Body of Italy).

While compliance with Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 will ultimately become a mandatory operational benchmark for all battery manufacturers selling into European markets, FPT initiated its systemic compliance transition ahead of schedule in 2024. For automotive and commercial fleet operators, the verification ensures structural traceability, optimized cell degradation tracking, and production uniformity.

The validation process also yielded a dual regulatory milestone, enabling TÜV SÜD Denmark ApS to secure official accreditation from DANAK under the EU Batteries Regulation. This designates TÜV SÜD as one of the first three technical service providers in Europe authorized to issue conformity assessments with the CE mark. To achieve this, TÜV SÜD explicitly selected FPT’s production infrastructure and the IVECO Technology & Digital Validation & Homologation body—the department tasked with type-approving FPT’s power storage packs—as the baseline pilot framework to demonstrate complex audit competency.

FPT demonstrated strong readiness ahead of schedule by passing the audit,” stated Simone Gianoglio, representing Technology & Digital Validation & Homologation Vehicle & Battery Homologation for Iveco Group. “This is all the more gratifying for us since we were specifically chosen by TÜV SÜD as a pilot audit. This prestigious certification testifies our commitment to reliable, high-performance electrification solutions, with our range of advanced battery management systems and innovative energy storage systems.

At FPT, we have seen a highly motivated and very professional team that has fully committed to embedding quality in the manufacturing process,” added Yalcin Ölmez, Lead Auditor for the EU Batteries Regulation at TÜV SÜD Denmark. “What we have seen is battery production that meets the highest standards.

The eBS 37 EVO Storage Architecture

The certified eBS 37 EVO is a modular 37 kWh battery pack optimized around a premium Lithium-ion Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC 811) chemistry matrix. The internal configuration supports a 95% depth-of-discharge (DoD), yielding an energy density exceeding 140 Wh/kg while reducing overall unladen vehicle weight.

The system is managed internally via FPT’s in-house eBM 5 Battery Management System, programmed to optimize dynamic thermals and cell life cycles depending on commercial mission profiles. Structurally, the pack is built to comply with high-level crash and electronic safety protocols, meeting ECE R100.4 and ECE R10.6 regulatory guidelines.

Crucially, the entire eBS 37 EVO lineup is natively battery passport-ready, embedding the data-tracking capabilities required for complete supply-chain transparency, sustainability tracing, and material circularity under upcoming European governance frameworks.
