After pandemic-related delays, GMC has unveiled the long-awaited Hummer EV, a 100% electric pickup truck that pays homage to the iconic 4×4 Hummer from the 1990s, originally inspired by a military vehicle. The Hummer EV boasts Ultium battery technology, developed in collaboration with LG Chem, promising an impressive range of over 348 miles (560 km) and the ability to gain 100 miles (160 km) of charge in just 10 minutes at an 800v fast-charging station.
Design and Features
The designers of the Hummer EV have taken a futuristic approach without succumbing to the hype of Tesla’s Cybertruck. The pickup truck’s modern design maintains comparability with traditional gasoline pickups on the market. Notable features include the MultiPro tailgate, which offers six different configurations, and the CrabWalk function, allowing the pickup to move diagonally at low speeds thanks to equal steering angles for its front and rear wheels.
While the Hummer EV may come equipped with massive 37-inch diameter tires, it will be delivered with “only” 35-inch tires. GMC also promises an adaptive air suspension that can raise the vehicle by up to 149 millimeters for off-road adventures. The UltraVision system, featuring under-body cameras at both the front and rear, aids in obstacle detection during off-road excursions. The pickup also boasts Super Cruise, a semi-autonomous driving system enabling hands-free driving and lane changes on select roads and under specific conditions.
Interior and Infotainment
Inside the Hummer EV, you’ll find a 13.4-inch touchscreen paired with a cutting-edge infotainment system, complemented by a 12.3-inch diagonal instrumentation screen in front of the driver. GMC has prioritized delivering exceptional performance, whether on the road or off, making the Hummer EV an adaptable vehicle for any adventure.
Production and Price
Production of the GMC Hummer EV started in late 2021 at General Motors’ facility in Hamtramck, Michigan. Considering the destination fee and popular options, the estimated invoice price for the Base trim of the 2023 GMC Hummer EV stands at $110,295.
