Bologna – In a message delivered at Battery Day 2025, Italy’s Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, emphasized the government’s commitment to establishing Italy as a leader in battery technology. The conference, organized by A151 in collaboration with Battery Industry, gathered researchers, managers, and professionals to discuss the Italian battery sector’s strategic direction.
“The Government is at the forefront in Europe, designing an industrial policy that favors a non-ideological, sustainable green transition which will reconcile environmental needs, competitiveness and social impact,” Urso stated in his written message. He called for “common resources and a concrete commitment to regain global technological leadership and guarantee true strategic autonomy, starting with batteries.“
Urso highlighted the need for Italy to counter strong competition, particularly from Asian countries, by planning the supply of critical raw materials, strengthening the industrial supply chain, and boosting research. “We need to plan the supply of critical raw materials, strengthen the industrial supply chain and boost research, so as to create an industrial ecosystem on the continent that stands out for the quality of its innovation, manufacturing skills and the creation of qualified jobs,” he said.
He pointed to initiatives by ENEA, Flash Battery, FIAMM, and the expansion of Teverola as examples of progress in this direction. Urso also noted the interest of international investors in Italy, especially in the South, for developing storage systems that benefit both industry and the national electricity grid. “I am sure that, by continuing to work together, we will be able to build a competitive and autonomous battery production and recycling system, to the benefit of the future of Italy and the entire EU,” Urso added.
The message was delivered on the opening day of Battery Day 2025, which preceded E-Tech Europe 2025, an international trade show for battery and electric vehicle production. E-Tech Europe 2025, organized by A151, features over 150 exhibitors from 14 countries, showcasing advancements in electric and hybrid vehicles, battery technology, and related industries. The event includes conferences and workshops addressing topics such as heavy vehicle electrification, battery recycling, and self-driving cars.
