Italy is pushing forward in developing new batteries for electric vehicles. Researchers and businesses are working on more sustainable, powerful, safe, and affordable batteries. To showcase these efforts, “Battery Day 2025,” Italy’s first networking event for the battery industry, will take place on Monday, April 14, at BolognaFiere Service Center. Following this, E-Tech Europe, an international trade show focused on vehicle electrification, will be held on April 15 and 16 at BolognaFiere.
Research and Industry Efforts
In Italy, several research projects are exploring new battery technologies. For example, ENEA is experimenting with materials like ceramics and metallic mixtures for sodium-ion batteries. The CNR in Messina is developing new solid-state electrolytes for sodium batteries, and the Polytechnic University of Turin is working on advanced electrolytes. Furthermore, the industrial sector is active, with FIB building Italy’s first large-scale lithium cell production facility in Taverola.
Battery Day 2025: A Platform for Discussion
“Battery Day’s first edition will be an important event for meeting and discussion for the Italian battery market,” said Marco Pinetti, director of A151. “Experts and entrepreneurs will share their experiences, discuss challenges, and explore future prospects.”
The event will begin with presentations from Francesco De Meo of the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, and Antonio Rinaldi from ENEA. The program will include sessions on:
- The history of batteries in Italy, featuring speakers from companies like FAAM and FIAMM Energy Technology.
- Battery pack development, with insights from companies like Flash Battery and E-GAP Engineering.
- Emerging battery technology companies, including Be2Hub and Sparq Technology.
- Strategies to encourage investment in Italy, with representatives from various countries.
E-Tech Europe 2025: Showcasing Electrification
E-Tech Europe 2025 will feature over 20 conventions and workshops on topics such as electric heavy vehicles, battery recycling, and self-driving cars. The event will include specialized areas focusing on:
- Carbon fiber and composite materials.
- Battery recycling.
- Industrial electric vehicles.
- Automotive recycling.
- Automotive interior technologies.
The exhibition will also host the Fortronic Electronics Forum 2025, Italy’s key event on power electronics.
