Monta and GridBeyond have successfully registered 2,000 EV charging assets into the UK’s Static Firm Frequency Response (SFFR). This marks a significant milestone in their partnership. The initiative enhances grid stability and prevents blackouts by leveraging EV charging infrastructure. Monta’s PowerBank feature pauses charging during grid imbalances.
PowerBank, SFFR, and Grid Stability
Monta, a Danish EV charging platform, partners with GridBeyond, a global smart energy company. Together, they deploy charge points as demand-side assets in SFFR programs. Monta’s PowerBank, a preventative smart energy solution, detects grid imbalances and pauses charging. This helps distribute stress from electricity fluctuations. Connecting thousands of charge points allows owners to contribute to grid stability and earn Monta Wallet credits. This innovative approach enables businesses and individuals to participate in grid-balancing, preventing blackouts and supporting a resilient energy infrastructure.
Addressing Grid Strain and Monta’s Commitment
EV charging stations in urban areas generate high electricity demand. This strains the local grid, impacting charging availability and the overall power supply to homes and businesses. Monta’s solution integrates EV charging into grid-balancing. Alex Iriondo, Monta’s Grid Services Product Manager, said, “PowerBank alleviates grid pressure. As EV adoption continues to grow, we must build a resilient infrastructure that ensures both accessibility and stability.“
GridBeyond’s Role and EV Charging as a Stabilizer
Michael Kent, GridBeyond’s Head of EV Solutions, stated, “Monta’s solution manages charging schedules, integrating with our VPP platform. GridBeyond provides market access and manages interactions with National Grid. The management of these 2,000 charge points marks a milestone, showcasing EVs’ impact on grid balancing.” During grid imbalances, smart EV charging stabilizes the system, preventing disruptions. Monta and GridBeyond are making EV infrastructure a key player in energy planning.
Benefits, Partnership, and Future Growth
Iriondo added, “With Monta’s PowerBank, charge point operators can support the grid and benefit financially. Every charging station prevents blackouts and improves resilience.” He continued, “We believe strong partnerships, like this one with GridBeyond, are essential for the transition to a smarter energy system. We aim to register more charge points, proving EV charging stabilizes the grid.“
Synergy and Future-Proof Grid
Iriondo concluded, “The Monta-GridBeyond collaboration shows synergy between EV infrastructure and energy. Smart charging solutions are fundamental for a future-proof grid. Enrolling more charge points benefits all, creating a resilient, cost-effective, and sustainable network. This partnership will see 1,500 more registrations soon. It ensures EV adoption enhances energy reliability, demonstrating charge points are critical energy assets.“
