New EVgo Fast Chargers Under Toyota “Empact”

LOS ANGELES – Leading public fast charging infrastructure provider EVgo Inc. and Toyota Motor North America, Inc. have announced the opening of their first DC fast charging (DCFC) stations in Baldwin Park and Sacramento, California. These stations were built through Toyota’s “Empact” vision. Indeed, these are new co-branded stations, owned and operated by EVgo. Each station can serve up to eight vehicles simultaneously and exclusively features 350kW fast chargers.

Toyota’s “Empact” Vision and Charging Access

Toyota’s “Empact” vision, first announced in April 2023, aims to help underserved communities transition to electrified vehicle transport. This aligns with Toyota’s broader mission of providing “mobility for all.” Specifically, the strategy focuses on three key areas: improving access to charging, offering affordable mobility solutions, and reducing carbon emissions. Consequently, the newly opened stations will provide more convenient EV charging access for residents of the surrounding communities.

Collaboration for Enhanced Charging Infrastructure

Scott Levitan, Executive Vice President of Growth at EVgo, stated, “Availability of charging is essential as consumers consider buying or leasing an EV. Therefore, as automakers offer more electric vehicle choices, EVgo will continue to deploy fast chargers for both current and prospective EV drivers.” He added, “Collaboration with automakers has been core to our expansion over the last several years, and EVgo is grateful for the continued support from Toyota.” Furthermore, James George, General Manager of EV Charging Solutions at Toyota Motor North America, emphasized, “Together with EVgo, we are supporting broader access to charging infrastructure for all battery EV drivers, including those driving Toyota and Lexus BEVs. Our aim is to ensure that customers find the newly opened stations both convenient and efficient for their charging needs.”

Convenient Locations and Extended Charging Program

The new charging stations are strategically located in areas with easy access to amenities such as grocery stores, restaurants, and shopping malls. In addition to this infrastructure collaboration, EVgo has also recently extended its charging program with Toyota. This program offers one year of complimentary charging for individuals who purchase or lease the 2025 Toyota bZ4X battery EV compact crossover sport utility vehicle. Customers can easily locate EVgo stations and initiate this complimentary charging offer through the Toyota App on their mobile devices.

Community and Environmental Benefits

State Senator Angelique Ashby (D-Sacramento) hailed the initiative, saying, “Toyota and EVgo’s action to bring advanced fast chargers to Sacramento is an important milestone. Fast charging stations provide critical infrastructure that will amplify the use of clean energy transportation across Senate District 8. Ultimately, this initiative is a win for our environment and for the future of sustainable mobility in Sacramento.” Similarly, State Assemblywoman Blanca Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) commented, “We are excited to receive a new, EV fast charging station in Baldwin Park. This will support our city’s residents and visitors. Infrastructure investments like this are extremely beneficial to those in the region needing a place to charge their vehicle and are a positive step in cleaning up our air quality.”
