PHYTEC & Partners Launch EVCS-Cube Consortium for EV Charging

MAINZ, GERMANY – Strong partners have united to enable the rapid development of individual charging solutions. At the Power2Drive event, PHYTEC, Pionix, Frickly Systems, CuroCon, and Alp officially agreed to establish the EVCS-Cube Consortium. The EVCS-Cube serves as a complete development kit for both DC and AC charging solutions. It allows for immediate evaluation of components and direct entry into charging system development. Consortium partners will further develop the EVCS-Cube and support customers from the initial product idea through to market success.

The EVCS-Cube Consortium was founded to foster close cooperation in electric vehicle charging technology. PHYTEC coordinates the consortium as its leader. Their phyVERSO-EVCS charging controller forms the basis for the development kit. This controller features a modular design, allowing for customization across various charging solutions. Beyond hardware and development services, PHYTEC also offers system-on-modules and individual embedded electronics, including software, design-in support, and lifecycle services to accelerate customer development.

Key Contributions from Consortium Partners

  • Pionix provides the BaseCamp Charger operating system. This system, supplied as an evaluation version with the EVCS-Cube, simplifies development. It also ensures compatibility with the latest charging protocols and communication standards. Pionix BaseCamp builds upon the open-source framework EVerest from the Linux Energy Foundation.
  • Frickly Systems acts as a consortium partner for customizing drivers and integrating components into EV charging systems.
  • CuroCon offers support from hardware design to comprehensive overall system testing. This includes compliance with calibration laws, such as the German Eichrecht.
  • Alp joins as another consortium member, specializing in developing housings. Their expertise spans from urban charging stations to robust highway units.

Close Cooperation for Rapid Series Success

This close cooperation among the companies enables fast and targeted customer support for developing proprietary charging solutions. It also optimally complements individual expertise. The EVCS-Cube Development Kit for charging stations already stands as a successful joint project. Out-of-the-box, it supports basic charging for many vehicles, allowing quick initiation of individual charging application development.

The EVCS-Cube components have been chosen for industrial and product series suitability. They originate from renowned partners such as Huawei, Actron, Isabellenhütte, and Bender. These components are housed in the robust and spacious casing of the EVCS-Cube. Their arrangement and wiring follow applicable standards and extensive practical experience. All components are easily replaceable and expandable, enabling adaptation of the EVCS-Cube to specific projects and requirements.

The EVCS-Cube is now available in two versions:

  • EVCS-Cube PoC (Proof of Concept) including DC charging: 4,990.00 euros (plus VAT)
  • EVCS-Cube Basic with AC charging electronics: 590.00 euros (plus VAT)
