Polestar has finally thrown its hat into the ring of electric SUVs, and the wait was worth it. The all-new Polestar 3 is a force to be reckoned with, boasting impressive power and a large battery for extended range.
Big on Presence, Big on Space (Mostly)
While some might have expected an SUV with Polestar’s second model, the wait has yielded an imposing presence. Measuring nearly 4.9 meters long, the Polestar 3 is comparable in size to the Volvo XC90. Thanks to its electric architecture, it benefits from a generous 2.99-meter wheelbase, hinting at excellent interior space for passengers. However, the trunk capacity comes in a bit modest for its size, offering 484 liters.
Two Powertrains, One Big Battery
The recently unveiled technical specifications give us a glimpse under the hood (or rather, under the floor). The Polestar 3 comes in two configurations, both featuring dual electric motors. The standard model offers a respectable 489 horsepower and a whopping 840 Nm of torque. Looking for even more muscle? The Performance version ups the ante to 519 horsepower and a staggering 910 Nm of torque, propelling the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in a brisk 4.7 seconds.
Both variants share the same heart: a massive 111 kWh battery. This translates to a WLTP-estimated range of 610 kilometers for the standard version and 560 kilometers for the Performance model. When it comes to charging, the Polestar 3 offers up to 11 kW on AC and a maximum of 250 kW on DC fast chargers, making it easy to top up your battery on the go.
A Strong Electric Contender
With its impressive power, spacious interior (except for the trunk), and extended range thanks to the large battery, the Polestar 3 positions itself as a serious contender in the electric SUV market. Stay tuned for more details and test drive impressions as this exciting new model hits the road.
Seems pretty high on the numbers. Will the price also be at the top of the EV list?
It should be between $75,000 and $110,000
