PowerGo Launches Dynamic EV Pricing in Spain

PowerGo, a growing European Charge Point Operator (CPO), has launched Spain’s first dynamic pricing system for electric vehicle (EV) charging. This innovative approach directly links charging costs to hourly electricity market prices, empowering EV drivers to reduce their expenses and strategically plan their charging sessions for greater efficiency and affordability.

Charging Prices Linked Directly to Hourly Electricity Market Rates

The dynamic pricing model is now active at PowerGo’s network of over 50 charging points across Spain. These prices fluctuate hourly based on the EPEX, the European platform for electricity trading. Electricity prices on the EPEX are influenced by European supply and demand dynamics, typically decreasing during periods of low demand or surplus renewable energy generation and increasing when demand is high or supply is limited.

Òscar Cardoner Campi, Business Development Director at PowerGo in Spain, emphasized the benefits: “With dynamic prices, we encourage EV drivers to charge when more renewable energy is available on the grid. This makes charging both cheaper and greener. By linking our prices to market conditions, we make smart charging more attractive for EV drivers and promote efficient energy use. In doing so, we support the development of a sustainable and future-proof charging infrastructure.

PowerGo Charge App Enables Smart Charging and Transparency

The PowerGo Charge app provides users with real-time visibility into the upcoming hours’ charging prices, enabling them to plan their charging schedules intelligently and directly benefit from cost savings. This level of transparency and pricing flexibility offers a significant advantage for individual EV owners and businesses managing electric fleets.

Rapid Expansion Underway in Spain and Across Europe

PowerGo is actively expanding its presence in Spain, with plans to deploy an additional 126 charging points in the near future. This growth contributes to PowerGo’s broader strategy of strengthening its leadership position across Europe, with new charging locations also planned in Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Germany, and Belgium. Recent expansions in Spain include the installation of 320 kW ultra-fast charging points at Zona Dièsel in Vic and a 120 kW fast charger at Maisons du Monde in Palma. Notably, PowerGo will also install 24 ultra-fast charging points across six service areas on routes around Madrid, following a successful public tender from SEITT, Spain’s state-owned transport infrastructure company.

Sustainability at the Core of PowerGo’s Operations

With a growing network of over 1,700 charging points across seven European countries, PowerGo is expanding through numerous partnerships. The company offers comprehensive charging solutions without upfront investment, managing installation, operation, and maintenance. As a subsidiary of PowerField, a Dutch solar energy generation and storage specialist, PowerGo’s charging points utilize renewable energy from PowerField’s solar parks, creating a complete green energy ecosystem.
