GERMANY — Micromobility brand n+ has unveiled a new range of premium electric bicycles developed under official license from Volkswagen. The lineup brings automotive-style safety and visibility features to two wheels, with the goal of making everyday riding safer and more intuitive.
While many e-bikes focus primarily on motor power and battery size, the Volkswagen-licensed range takes a different approach. n+ says the new ecosystem is built around rider awareness, traffic visibility, and connected safety technology inspired by modern passenger vehicles.
As more commuters turn to e-bikes in congested cities, safety has become a larger part of the industry conversation. This new range is designed to help riders see more of the road behind them, signal their movements more clearly, and stay more aware of surrounding traffic.

Smart View: Eliminating the Blind Spot
At the heart of the new Volkswagen e-bike is Smart View, an intelligent radar-activated rear-view camera system. The feature is designed to reduce the need for riders to turn away from the road ahead when checking what is behind them.
Mounted into the handlebars, the integrated high-definition camera provides a live rearward view while riding. Radar-based alerts also warn the rider when vehicles approach from behind, helping improve situational awareness in busy urban traffic.
Smart Lights: Automotive Signaling on Two Wheels
The e-bike also uses automotive-style lighting to improve visibility. A full-length illuminated LED strip is built directly into the top tube and functions as a daytime running light, helping the bike stand out from multiple angles.
The strip changes behavior when the rider brakes or turns. It glows red under braking and amber when turning, allowing nearby motorists to better understand the rider’s movements. n+ says the system is intended to bring the same kind of signaling logic used in cars to micromobility.
Smart Helmet: High-Level Sync & Crash Detection
The connected safety system extends beyond the bike itself with the Volkswagen-licensed Smart Helmet. Bluetooth connectivity allows the helmet to sync with the e-bike, while built-in LED lighting works in tandem with the bike’s Smart Lights to reinforce braking and turn signals at eye level.
The helmet also includes a built-in accelerometer that can detect a crash and send a text message to emergency contacts with the rider’s location. n+ says this adds another crucial layer of protection for urban riders and commuters.
Smart Glasses: Eyes on the Road
The Smart Glasses complete the connected system by bringing ride information into the rider’s field of vision. Inspired by automotive heads-up displays, the lightweight glasses show navigation prompts, rear-view blind-spot alerts, and ride data without forcing the rider to look down at a screen.
A deliberate eye movement to the top-right corner activates or deactivates the display. n+ says the glasses were developed by the same engineers behind fighter-pilot HUD technology and are designed to work beyond cycling, including for action sports, motorcycling, or driving.
