Holyvolt Acquires Wildcat Discovery in $73M Battery Tech Merger

STOCKHOLM & SAN DIEGO – Swedish battery innovator Holyvolt has finalized a $73 million acquisition of Wildcat Discovery Technologies, a move set to accelerate the Western battery supply chain by integrating AI-driven material discovery with sustainable manufacturing.

Strategic Breakthrough in Battery Materials

The deal combines Holyvolt’s proprietary water-based screen-printing production with Wildcat’s High Throughput Platform (HTP). This integration allows the combined entity to discover, screen, and scale new battery chemistries up to 10 times faster than traditional R&D methods.

Key Highlights of the Holyvolt-Wildcat Deal:

  • Transaction Value: $73 Million (Cash, Equity, and Milestones).
  • Technology Synergy: Fusing Wildcat’s “drug discovery” HTP model with Holyvolt’s modular, low-CapEx manufacturing.
  • Data Advantage: Leveraging terabyte-scale datasets for AI-driven battery optimization.
  • Sustainability: Elimination of toxic organic solvents via Holyvolt’s water-based processing.

Solving the EV Supply Chain Crisis

As automotive OEMs face increasing pressure to decouple from Asian supply chains, the Holyvolt-Wildcat merger offers a “geographically independent” solution for Europe and North America. By focusing on cobalt- and nickel-free materials, the company is targeting the primary cost and ethical bottlenecks in EV production.

“The acquisition of Wildcat is a perfect complement to our strategy,” said Mathias Ingvarsson, Founder and CEO of Holyvolt. “We are building the most compelling technology to make batteries cleaner and more affordable.

AI and High Throughput: The Future of Storage

Wildcat Discovery Technologies, founded by Professor Peter Schultz (CEO of Scripps Research), has spent two decades refining a combinatorial chemistry approach. This “drug discovery” methodology allows for the simultaneous testing of thousands of material variations, a capability that Holyvolt will now use to feed its pilot-scale production lines.

Magnus Tyreman, Chairman of Holyvolt and former Head of McKinsey Europe, emphasized the geopolitical weight of the deal: “The West must accelerate next-generation battery technologies to secure long-term energy independence.”

What This Means for the Industry

For the global battery sector—spanning aerospace, defense, and consumer electronics—this merger introduces a new type of Technology Development Partner. The company will offer tailored licensing arrangements, allowing partners to implement these rapid innovation cycles within their own manufacturing hubs.
