Auckland, New Zealand – In a big step for cleaner travel, Meridian Energy has partnered with Auckland Airport to open a new, modern EV charging hub at the airport. This hub is designed to make charging simple for all electric car drivers in the area, even if they are pulling a trailer.
No More Waiting: Lots of Fast Chargers Available
Meridian knows that waiting to charge can be annoying. So, they’ve made sure this new hub has plenty of power. It has five fast DC chargers, and each one can charge two cars at the same time, giving up to 160kW of power per plug. This means a total of ten fast charging spots, so more drivers can charge quickly.
Easy Access for Everyone:
Meridian has also thought about everyone’s needs. Two of the chargers include spaces with people with limited mobility, who will have priority over the chargers, as well as a larger drive-through charger for longer vehicles, or vehicles pulling a load. “We’ve listened really closely to the EV community about their experiences using chargers around the country and what they’d like to see at charging sites,” says Joanna Yip, Meridian Product Manager. “With so many outdoor options within a short drive of Auckland Airport, we’ve factored in what our customers may be up to and where they may be going, even if they’re towing a trailer, boat or caravan.”
Clean Energy for Your Car
This Auckland Airport hub sets a new standard: it’s the first on Meridian’s EV charging network certified for 100% renewable energy. Through their Renewable Energy Certificates, every charge is powered by clean energy from Meridian’s hydro and wind farms. What’s more, the money from these certificates fuels community projects that support EVs and solar power.
Works with All Types of EVs
Charging your car here will be easy, no matter what kind you have. The hub works with both CCS and CHAdeMO charging types, which are used by most EVs. And, Meridian’s smart system makes sure the power is shared in the best way between all the chargers. This means less waiting and faster charging for everyone.
Auckland Airport Supports Cleaner Travel
Auckland Airport is serious about being green. “We’re seeing an increasing demand from our customers for EV charging and we’re thrilled to bring a dedicated EV charging hub to the airport precinct,” says Auckland Airport’s Chief Commercial Officer Mark Thomson. “We’re re-purposing an existing carpark, just off the main road heading into the terminal, as the area for Meridian’s EV charging space. It’s nice and close to the supermarket, cafes and retail stores, making it easy for customers to park and charge. This is part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability. We have an important role to play in lowering emissions across the precinct and this will boost the number of EV charging parks here at AKL when it opens.”
