Monta Expands Managed Roaming Network with Plugsurfing

LONDONMonta, the infrastructure platform for European EV charging networks, announced today that it has integrated Plugsurfing into its roaming ecosystem, extending its total coverage to more than one million active charge points across 26 European countries.

The partnership represents an 80% expansion of Monta’s roaming reach. A key component of this growth includes access to an additional 137,000+ high-power charge points, which the company says will improve reliability for drivers on long-distance routes. By gaining access to lower charge point operator (CPO) rates through this deal, Monta intends to offer more competitive roaming prices for drivers without requiring additional action from operators.

A Centralized Approach to Roaming

Unlike traditional roaming strategies that depend on single third-party networks, Monta utilizes a proprietary Managed Roaming Network. This system functions as a central hub where Monta handles partnerships, integrations, and billing, effectively creating a unified network for its customers.

The company explains that the relationship with Plugsurfing—a subsidiary of Corpay—is maintained entirely between the two organizations. Consequently, Monta’s CPO customers are not required to manage new contracts or technical integrations to access the expanded network.

For EV driving to be truly simple, roaming needs to be seamless for drivers and invisible to operators,” said Casper Rasmussen, CEO at Monta. “Adding Plugsurfing to our Managed Roaming Network means our operators now reach even more of Europe’s charging infrastructure, without any additional work.

Tom Rowlands, Managing Director, Global EV Solutions at Corpay, added: “By connecting Plugsurfing’s European network to Monta’s infrastructure, operators can extend their coverage and improve the driver experience without taking on the operational work behind it.

Impact for Operators

According to the company, existing Monta CPO customers will benefit from this expansion immediately. The partnership offers the following advantages for operators:

  • Massive Network Expansion: Increases European roaming coverage from 600,000+ to over 1 million charge points.
  • Better Value for Drivers: Automates more competitive, transparent roaming pricing.
  • Full Operator Control: Allows operators to maintain authority over their own roaming tariffs and the end-customer experience.
  • Seamless Integration: No new contracts or technical integrations are required for current customers.
  • Simplified Administration: Monta handles all commercial relationships and billing, providing consolidated reporting through a single system.
