FPT Industrial, the powertrain brand of Iveco Group, celebrated IVECO’s 50th anniversary at its R&D Center in Arbon, Switzerland. The event, held last Friday, welcomed employees, their families, and local stakeholders. The day focused on a forward-looking journey through the past, present, and future of propulsion, emphasizing the company’s innovation and research. The celebration highlighted topics such as zero-carbon propulsion, alternative fuels, and the impact of digital mobility and AI.
A Beacon of Innovation and Excellence
The Arbon R&D plant is one of FPT Industrial’s most advanced technology and innovation hubs globally, and a beacon of excellence for its local community. Here, a diverse team of more than 200 people from 21 different nationalities works to shape future solutions. The center focuses on research and advanced engineering for both internal combustion engines and the ePowertrain line-up, developing products for on-road, off-road, and racing applications.
A key focus of the facility’s work is research into alternative fuels, zero-emissions solutions, and hydrogen technology, including both combustion and fuel cells. The center has also developed its operations with sustainability in mind. For example, dyno test benches capture and convert otherwise lost energy into electricity, and waste heat is efficiently recovered and reused to power space heating and public swimming pools.
Pioneering a Dual-Pillar Approach
The history of the Arbon R&D Center is closely tied to some of FPT Industrial’s most significant technological innovations. This includes recent developments for the eBS 37 EVO and eBS 69 battery packs, as well as for the hydrogen version of the XCURSOR 13.
These milestones reaffirm the Arbon center as a strong expression of FPT Industrial’s “dual-pillar approach.” The company is sustaining its leadership and innovation in internal combustion engines while simultaneously investing in new zero-emission solutions. The event also featured a panel on “Swiss innovation” and opportunities for cross-border collaboration and attracting talent. The day concluded with laboratory tours and a networking session, allowing participants new opportunities for discovery and dialogue.
