A Greener Future for Bruins
UCLA is leading the way in sustainable transportation with a significant $19.85 million grant from the California State Transportation Agency. This funding will revolutionize campus mobility by electrifying the entire BruinBus fleet and implementing cutting-edge wireless charging technology.
A Greener Campus
The grant will be used to:
- Expand the Electric Fleet: UCLA will significantly increase its fleet of electric buses and vans, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality on campus.
- Build a New Transit Hub: A state-of-the-art transit hub will be constructed, connecting the campus to the L.A. Metro D Line light rail extension, enhancing accessibility and reducing reliance on personal vehicles.
- Pioneer Wireless Charging: UCLA will be at the forefront of wireless charging technology, implementing an in-road wireless charging system. This innovative solution will allow electric buses to charge while in motion, minimizing downtime and maximizing efficiency.
A Model for Sustainable Transportation
By embracing electric vehicles and wireless charging technology, UCLA is setting a new standard for sustainable transportation. This initiative aligns with the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility.
“This transformative grant will significantly enhance our transportation network, providing a cleaner, more efficient BruinBus fleet that aligns with our commitment to sustainability and innovation,” said Tony Lucas, executive director of UCLA Events and Transportation.
As UCLA prepares to host the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, this investment in sustainable transportation will ensure a seamless and eco-friendly experience for all.
